Abstract:
Consisting of Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario, the Great Lakes make up the largest body of freshwater on Earth.

Interconnected through a system of natural channels and canals, the Great Lakes have been an essential shipping corridor for more than 300 years.

Couple all that shipping with ice, fog, intense storms and congested shipping lanes and it’s no wonder so many wrecks litter the bottom of the lakes.

The clear cold waters have persevered ore carriers, intact schooners, and passenger vessels wrecks in pristine condition. In addition,

we’ll bring things a bit closer to home with a brief introduction to the discovery of the William H. Machen which we discovered in 300 ft. of water

this summer off the NH coast.

Bio:
For over 25 years, Ryan has been diving, teaching, and photographing marine like, caves and wrecks from Canada to the Caribbean.

He has a passion for exploration and helping others enjoy and appreciate the underwater world.

Just to be clear, I’ve not worked with Nat Geo. I do have an article on the wrecks of Newfoundland that will be published in the

next issue of Wreck Diver Magazine.

I’m happy to come share with your group. If you can cover my meal, we’ll be in good shape. Thanks for the initiation.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Seacoast Science Center Requests Donations of Artifacts By Divers

Note from Ron Watson asking if you can send out to Dive club members..

Ron works part time as a Naturalist at the Seacoast Science Center located in Odiorne Pt. State Pk. in Rye NH. They are in the process of designing a new exhibit that will be built during the winter and open in the spring. The exhibit is called "Immersion", and it is about diving, the evolution of diving, sport diving, commercial diving and other careers in diving. They are looking for donations of equipment (2 hose reg. and other items), artifacts from local wrecks and pictures and video of sealife , structures natural and man made. They will gladly acknowledge your donations with credits on video and pics and donation plaques on materials.

Paul at the Dive Locker in Gloucester has started the donation process with a vintage steel 72 and a first generation Calypso Reg.. Hopefully this exhibit will peak the interest of some of our young visitors and help to keep the Love of the UW and the sport we all enjoy alive.

If have anything to donate, reach out to Ron directly. Not me. 603 505-7697

I donated all my antique bottles found diving in Portsmouth.
